About Us

It was when Dr. Shiamala Nadesan was found to be affected by a rare cancer called Plasmacytoma and after the successful recovery with the timely and appropriate treatment, she and her family realised the importance of helping and caring for other people who are affected with the same condition.

The birth of this foundation is a result of a collective effort of her family and friends.

Objectives

Dr. Shiamala Nadesan Cancer Welfare Foundation is a charity whose purpose is to:

• Advance the health of people in Sri Lanka by providing support to individuals in the grassroot level to pay for cancer treatment services;
• Funding medical centers for the diagnosis, treatment and management of cancer patients; 
• Providing community health services focused on the needs of the community, such as mobile screening for cancer, counselling etc.;
• Providing patient transport services to and from public medical centres where necessary to enable patients to access healthcare;
• Undertaking research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and/or management of cancer and publishing the results of that research;
• Providing training for medical professionals regarding the most recent developments in best practices for diagnosing, treating, and/or managing illness;
• Purchase diagnostic and treatment equipment for hospitals and medical centers.
